Initiative Marker for Pulp Alley

Postby Bluebear » Mon Dec 23, 2013 11:23 pm

Greetings,

After reading a number of "first game" accounts of those playing "Pulp Alley", one of the things that most mentioned is that they lost track of who should have the initiative.

So I'm thinking that having an object that passes from player to player to indicate initiative would be a good idea.

And the object that immediately sprang into my mind was an old time radio microphone . . . a handheld version that could be passed from player to player.

Does anyone know of source for a model of one of these or will I have to scratch build something?

If scratch building (which I suspect), I would appreciate any good images that you know of on the net.

You might try ebay? Or some online Army surplus?

Sounds like a cool idea!

I had this very same thought, long ago! A regular little marker is too easily lost or mislaid. What I've usually been doing is handing around a plastic Halloween novelty skull goblet -- sorta like the conch in "The Lord of the Flies" -- and whoever holds it is the player with initiative. He or she surrenders it to the next player. It's hard to forget when you're holding something like that!

Plus you can actually drink out of it, should you have a mind....

At different times, we have used a small Rubik's cube (the Cube of Command), and an LED Halloween candle (the Torch of Liberty). The microphone idea is a cool one, though.

I really like the vintage microphone idea, but I have also been thinking about getting an old director's megaphone. I think that would be cool! :D
