Solo Deck question--Terrors

Postby Whomever1 » Sun Sep 11, 2016 10:15 pm

I was considering doing a Race Against Time scenario with my roller derby league against a terror (which I haven't painted up yet, but am working on her). But it occurred to me that the poor terror wouldn't stand a chance if the cards forced it to attack rather than to perform plot point actions. What kinds of experiences have people had with terrors playing the Solo Deck?

"Furious" is the only card that compels a character to attack, and that's only if they fail a 2X Challenge on Cunning or Might, which most Terrors ought to be able to pass easily. And there's only one of them in the deck.

In my experience, small leagues tend to be at a bit of a disadvantage in 'Race Against Time' - Solo or otherwise.

I think it could be done, but I'd make sure the Terror has plenty of defensive/survival based abilities. Without any screening troops, the leader usually gets overwhelmed or is kept too busy to finish the objective.

Have a go and let us know. :D

From our own experiences, the Terror's biggest problem is that, no matter how big and tough it is, it only gets one activation a turn, and most leagues get 6 or more. This will make it very likely he will be too busy fighting to score plot points anyway, regardless of card draws, since any character in base contact will force the Terror to attack instead of scoring plot points. Based on this, I would make a couple of suggestions.
1) Give the Terror some minions, or let him summon them, to provide a screen.
2) Consider having your Terror guard the plot points, rather than multitask him with scoring them as well as fighting.
Thanks,

I would agree with both Dave & Rags Whom, A big tuft terror only needs one or two bad dice roll's & he's in trouble, but if you had him just guarding the PP's with a couple of minion's like Rag's said it should make for a better game.

Your point is well taken, but my dragon is almost all painted up--what kinds of minions do dragons have? At least ones I can reasonably find and paint. Yevaud had her kids (so handily killed off by Ged). Actually, I just searched, and bought some baby dragon miniatures from Reaper--isn't the Internet wornderful. Never mind. Notice how I capitalized "Internet", because it's a sentient being now.

I would consider two rule modifications with terrors used as their own league.

1) An extra action… so long as the second action is not a second run, a second attempt to resolve a plot point or a redundant full action.
2) All Terrors are Juggernauts as a free ability so they can't be pinned as easily.

An old thread on Hulkbusters went rather deeply into using Terrors as leagues with some insight into play test examples.

Late to the party, but there's an interesting Wonder Woman/JLA graphic novel, A League of One, where the big bad is a dragon. The dragon in this story corrupts a bunch of gnomes, turning them into "drakunomes". Goblin or kobold minis would probably make for great stand-ins.
