Fillable League Roster (MS Excel 2010)

For discussing rules relating to characters, perks, abilities, and rosters....

I'm trying to create my first league with the Excel blank but right away, I've hit snags.

Mainly, the spreadsheet stopped generating pull-down menus after the first character. See the screen shot at this image link. Whenever I generate the menu arrows, instead of a menu of selectable items, only this small box with a check mark appears, to the lower left of the character box being filled. Any idea what I'm doing wrong, anyone? Or is this some bizarre Excel hiccup?

I feel like I'm spending more time fighting with my computer than I am doing any constructive league organizing or actual gaming. :?

It looks like you need to select a Level before you can select abilities. So click on the "Name" cell for a dropdown and pick the level for the character you want to make.

If you don't select a level first, it want provide a list of abilities.

I hope that helps.

Thanks! Will try this.... tricky business. Excel was never popular with some of us at the university staff, just not intuitive for those of us not born using it, and training was non-existent.

Yep, that solved the problem!

I will not hop around the form in the future, but be sure I complete things methodically and in sequence. I didn't even notice that I had skipped the character level.

Cool, glad that helped. That is an easy cell to miss.

Also, be aware that many of the formulas are not protected so they can be deleted, so it is a good idea to keep an original backup copy saved. For example, if you "delete" the cell that shows an abilities Summary it will cease to populate even if you select a new ability. So be careful about what you delete.

It is probably better to start with an original blank roster each time, then save a specific league as a different file with a new name rather than trying to rewrite over the same roster.

Is the latest version - 1.42 I believe upto date with all the info leagues book?

Just thought I'd check before starting to use that one.

Thanks
