Can a character take both the brainy and sly abilities?

And is a 5d8 Dodge too powerful?

I have a couple of characters with that combo.
Not only can't they Brawl, they don't even like to think about it.

PS: Even with 5d8 Dodge, they still get hit now and then. Dodge is powerful, but when you're dodging, you're not winning. ;)

Most excellent. Thanks. I wasn’t sure if it was considered “ungentlemanly” to have 5 dice for one skill. Seems like a lot.

Consider the Grappling and Heavy Hand Weapon kits, which allow you to combine (once per turn, anyway) your Brawl and Might dice. I've rolled up to 8 dice that way. Does Dr. Evil worry about being a gentleman? Does Ming the Merciless? I think not. Nor should you, when you're up against them.

Yes, this is acceptable. If I ever get around to making a 2nd Edition of Pulp Leagues, this is one of the things we'll look at again.

We see super-dodgy characters on the table sometimes. In general, I have not seen them to be more effective than any other league concept. And as rags correctly points out ..."Dodge is powerful, but when you're dodging, you're not winning."

Man, you guys aint’t kidding when you say “when you’re dodging, you’re not winning”.

Tried this out and worked great for grabbing plot points, but got into a scrum and had 4 opponents on me. They couldn’t hit me but I had nowhere to dodge move out of the combat as I was surrounded. My sidekick was locked in and useless for 3 turns!

Dodge is not normally that useful when it comes to completing plot points. It can only be used with “any skill” challenges, and there are not many of those.

It worked good for grabbing plot points since brainy bumps up cunning 1d and sly bumps up finesse 1d.
